A Career Choice That Fits
Hello, my name is Quentin Steen. Allow me to tell you a little about myself. I was born in San Angelo, TX. I’m 22 years old. I’m married and have 2 beautiful children. I graduated High school with a 3.8 GPA. Right out of high school, I went to college to become a network administrator. It seemed like a good career. I have always loved computers and was good with using them, fixing them, and helping friends and family get them to do what they wanted them to. I went to Texas State Technical College in Waco, TX and I graduated with an Associates of Applied Science in Network Administration. I ended not being able to find any work in this field. Most of the networking jobs are in the larger cities and I personally don’t want to live in a large city, like Austin or Dallas. So, the best I could do, was a job working at the local computer store. I was making okay money, but nothing great. Things seemed to be going well, so I bought a house and my wife a new car, “a cheap used new car”, only to find out a few months later that the computer store that I worked at was going out of business. In my frantic search to find a new job, I ended up with one installing Internet for a decently sized company in Abiline (40 miles away). Now I have to commute 40 miles every day to the larger city, making less money then I was making at the computer store. So now, not only am I making less money, but I’m spending fifty dollars a week on gas just to get to work. I’m actually pretty close to losing either my house or my wife’s car which leaves me pretty desperate and broke in my search for a new career. Losing either would pretty much screw me. No house means no where to live. No car means no way to get to work which would lead to me losing my house anyway. Now I’m doing everything I can to find an easier way to make money from home. I am quite intelligent and have a background in computers, which helped me become a pretty fast typist. I can type about 70 to 80 WPM. So, I thought this career choice fit. No driving long distances to get to work and it seems like a job I could do really well at. The only problem I run into is that first, I’m broke, and second I have little to no knowledge about this field. That’s what I hope to gain from this course, the working knowledge to get me started in the career as a Medical Transcriptionist and an online typing job that allows me to make the money I need to support myself and my family. I’m truly grateful for the chance to receive a full scholarship to this course and appreciate all the help I can get.
