A Great Start in a New Direction
To Whom It May Concern: I am submitting an essay to try and receive a scholarship to help me with the medical transcription course. I am a mother of three children ages 2, 9, 12. I have been a certified nurse aide (CNA) and I am looking to make a major change in my career. First, I started the medical assistant program and I really enjoyed the MT and the medical coding part; but, due to family problems, I had to drop the program and relocate back to NY and now I am stuck paying student loans to a program I never got to finish which turned out to be very disappointing. I have wanted to get out of my work now for a very long time. I feel the MT program would be a great start for me in a new direction. I have eight years medical experience and I have worked as a trouble shooter which required listening and typing, so I know that I can handle the work load. The program would also help me to be able to work from home. I cannot afford daycare for my two year old and I am forced to work nights to save. My nine year old son has recently been diagnosed with ADHD as well as a learning disability and it would be very helpful for me to be able to stay home and meet with the teachers whenever possible. I am also considering home schooling him and I would like to be able to give my son 100% of my time, as well as a 100% to my job. I am facing a lot right now and at this point I have now turned 30 years old and never thought I would still be working as a CNA. I am grateful to have a job, especially with the economy and people losing there jobs; but at the same time, I refuse to be a CNA for the rest of my life. I see many reasons as to why an online typing job will be good for me. I can save on child care and spend time with my two year old. I can give my son the help that he needs from appointments to schooling, as well as any other services he may require to help him to become the person he is striving to be. I also will be able to make sure that my eldest son, who is now entering into the teenage years, is fine with school friends and any problems that may come up for him as well. In conclusion, I am very interested in this program. I found a MT program and I could not afford to take the class although the cost is $400. It’s very hard with 3 kids to put that kind of money out. I am asking if anything to receive some kind of assistance because I desperately want to get out of the CNA work to be able to make more money, spend more time with my family and have a job that I am proud of. I am a quick learner and I have a lot of determination to do this program. If I am not considered for the scholarship, please give me any ideas to at least begin to make changes in my career path. Thank you for consideration, Patrice
