An Alternative Employment Option
After recently relocating due to my husband’s work to an area where employment has reached a standstill, I am seeking alternative employment options. The one area of employment that is flourishing everywhere is the medical industry. And, according to the 2008-09 Edition of the Occupational Outlook Handbook, it will continue to grow. However, most positions require, in addition to specialized training, excessive standing, walking, and heavy lifting, none of which I am physically able to do. Those that don’t have physical demands require political connections that I don’t have. A legitimate work from home typing job would be the perfect alternative for me, for three reasons: 1) I am a self-motivated person who can accomplish much more alone than in the confinements and distractions of office environments (as proven by my completion of two online courses through ITT for a former employer in 2007–my final grade for each course was 98/4.0); 2) I would be able to locate work outside this area; and 3) due to old injuries, I have developed joint disorders and sciatica that make leaving home in bad weather extremely painful–working at home is increasingly becoming my only alternative. I just located Future MT online through an internet search and immediately noticed the BBB Accredited Business badge and report, which I checked. This one item caught my attention first and foremost, as it confirms the legitimacy of this program. This matters, not just in selection of a course provider, but also after completion when building a business. I also appreciated seeing in the FAQ’s an exact response to “”How much does the course cost?”. That was immediately helpful to me (unfortunately, even with the financial aid you also provide, I am not able to afford this program without full scholarship due to my current unemployed status). However, if I am able to complete this program through a scholarship award, it would enable me to start a business that I could grow to include younger people from lower-income families who are looking for the best, most profitable career possibilities available to them; and also to utilize the castaway workforce: older folks who are in declining physical condition but are reliable and still able, needing, and willing to work . After completing my own training within three to six months, creating and building a reliable clientele base in the following year, and generating solid profits in that time, within two years’ time or less I would be able to start directing them to Future MT as a first step. I hope, with enough business, to establish a training fund to help them with the cost; I also would like to continue their financial education with special training in taxes and retirement planning, a critical component of life that most people are never taught. The next fifteen years would be spent in running my business fairly and equitably, and creating a hefty retirement fund. This is my vision for realizing the full potential of a scholarship award.
