Essay for Full Scholarship for MT
Hello, my name is Marcie and I am very interested in becoming a Medical Transcriptionist. Health class was always my favorite subject in school. I have been raised around the medical field. I had Aunts and Cousins in Nursing and my ex husband was an Oxygen Tech. I don’t particularly want to be a nurse; I enjoy being in an office and being behind a desk to much. I am a pretty outgoing person and have been mistaken for a nurse on several occasions, but I am not. I enjoy knowing the medical lingo but have not always been able to fully understand what is exactly being said. Therefore being clueless, at times, is not, and has not been, one of my favorite situations to be in. I have been in Accounting and Clerical type positions for twenty years. I recently got laid off from my job and feel it’s time for a change. There are several reasons why I want to become a Medical Transcriptionist.
One reason is because I have been through so much in my family. My dad passed away a few years ago of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and I have had two children born premature and they both passed away. I feel like if I had known more about what was going on then I could have been better prepared and maybe even helped save their lives. My dad suffered for years before they, the Doctors, even had a clue what was going on with him. We all felt so helpless watching him go through his fears and falls and different things he went through on a daily basis. When he had his first chemo treatment he went downhill even more. He developed double pneumonia and passed away after being in the hospital for forty five days on a ventilator. My life has never been the same since then. I am more aware of the things going on (in the medical field) around me now and am more interested in learning about the bodies anatomy and how it works. Interestingly enough, I had a fall in May of this year and after several MRI’s, Cat Scans, X-Rays, Physical Therapy, trips to see the Doctor, twice to see a Neurologist, and spending lots and lots of money (since I have no insurance…due to being laid off from work) I was finally advised to go and see a Chiropractor.
The Chiropractic doctor explained to me how my nerves were being pinched in my back from the top of my spine to the very bottom and that my nerves were not only being pinched but then they would stick and that is what was causing my pain and numbness and weakness and making me fall at times. Now, if I had my Medical Transcriptionist degree, I would have had a better clue as to what was going on and possibly saved my self a lot of money and time for healing. The several reasons why I would like to work in the MT industry. One is like I said earlier to be able to understand what is being said when I go to the Doctor. Another reason is because having a MT degree allows me to be flexible and be able to work from home, therefore allowing me time to travel and do the things in life I would like to do. But the biggest reason is so I can help my daughter and her family out, weather it be money or just spending time with them. Why am I interested in training with Future Medical Transcription? To be honest with you, I have been searching online for Transcriptionist classes and Future MT has two things that stand out and are good for me among all the rest. First is that Future MT offers scholarship programs and even free tuition, if Applicable. The second reason is that I have looked over the software and find it most interesting and helpful.
I am a visual person and love to play games on the computer; therefore I believe I will learn quicker and faster with Future MT programs than just reading a book and typing. I am very excited about the visual effects. My future career goal is to be able to open up my own MT business someday, preferably in the next 2-4 years. I have the business savvy to do that, and when it is something you love and enjoy, it’s easier to have your own career and business in that field. I see myself using the Future MT training materials in the near future to train others, such as my daughter, so she can work from home and enjoy having the freedom it entails. Please consider me for this full scholarship Program. Money is very tight for me right now and I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to come on board with Future MT and become one of your protégés. Thank you!
