Making a Better Life
One of my main reasons for wanting to become a medical transcriptionist is to be able to work at home. I have an eight year old son and a two year old daughter and finding a good paying job that I would enjoy is almost impossible to find with having to work around their schedules. I am currently pursuing a degree in registered nursing and would like to have a second degree in the medical field to go along with that. I had my son when I was only 19 and do not regret a minute of it. Because of that though I was not able to go to college and I had to find a job right away to support him. Now with the addition of our second child, funds are even tighter for us. I have not been able to fully supply for my children the way that I would like to. We have always lived in a rundown apartment in a bad neighborhood so my kids could not go outside and play freely. We now live in a nice house on a street with lots of kids where they can go and play, but because our income is limited, we almost lost our house and I am scared that will soon happen if something does not change. It will be almost another two years before I am finished with my degree in nursing and I would like to have a job in the medical field before then to help me get used to it. Also, it would be nice to have this as a part time job to help with expenses once I do become a nurse. My problem now is that my education is limited, so even if I were to get a second job, the income for it would just go to pay for child care. I want to make enough to make it worth going to work for. Right now we do not pay for child care because my fiancée works the third shift and I work the first, but it is hard on our relationship. We never see each other and he has the kids during the day so he sleeps only about three to four hours a day. I would like to put them in child care but cannot afford it and I feel it would be a good experience for my daughter who is not yet old enough for school. She hardly gets to see any other children besides her brother and is not sure how to act around other kids. We are stuck in a revolving door and we can never seem to get ahead with anything. Once we think our finances are in order something happens to put us behind again and we have to wait for our tax return to finally catch up. By that time we are so far behind we still have no extra money to put up for a rainy day. I do get to spend quite a bit of time with my kids because I leave work early enough to get my son from school so I am home by 3 o’clock, but we never have any money to go out and do anything. So because of all this, my decision has been to go back to school; And even though I am pursuing nursing, I would like to have a stronger education in the medical field and I know I could accomplish this with medical transcription courses. I want to make a better life for me and my children before they are too old to enjoy it.
