Moving Forward With Medical Transcription
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, I’m submitting my essay in hopes of qualifying for the monthly full scholarship or whatever else I may qualify for. Thank you for your consideration in advance. I come from a medical background with RN/LPN and CNA education and experience. Due to being a single mother of two with no child support, I was not able to finish nursing school because of financial hardship. Student loans and financial aid were just not enough to support my family while I was in school full time. Now that my children are grown and gone, I can devote my time to work and to the studies necessary for medical transcription courses. I would like to utilize everything I have learned and experienced in the medical field and from my classes into Medical Transcription. I’m very fluent with spelling, typing, medical terminology, as well as anatomy and physiology; therefore, I feel that I would have a jump start on this. I am intrigued by the medical field; however, due to a significant factor in my life, it would be unsafe for me to do direct patient care. In March of 2007, I was diagnosed with a rare genetic blood disease, Factor V Leiden Mutation (a thickening of the blood), which has forced me to be on blood thinners. I need to find other employment or training for other employment from my current position as it is not beneficial for my health. I currently drive a truck in the oil field which is very hard heavy work. If I were to have a blood clot pass while driving with the hazardous materials that I haul, it could cause an extreme accident. Therefore, I’m putting others at risk. It is imperative that I get this training. I feel the flexibility of being able to work from home, or even in a hospital or clinic setting would be better suited for me as there is no direct patient care, which would not put others at risk for unintentional harm. My educational and career goals being a medical transcriptionist are to learn all I can from your program as well as continuing my education to expand beyond the 14 medical specialties that you offer. I would also like to move forward, eventually, into coding. I have been on the “floor” side of the medical, so for the first year or so, if possible, I would like to work in a hospital or clinic to gain more insight on that side of the medical aspect before moving onto an MT business. The benefit of being a Medical Transcriptionist, from what I have seen in my research, is the necessity and demand for qualified MTs which will enable me to secure gainful employment in this field. I have researched other certificate programs that are offered online and have learned that Future MT offers the most flexibility for me to learn and still be able to continue with my current job until I gain my certificate and employment. I’m also very impressed with the support offered such as unlimited live mentoring, the interactive CD Rom, no penalties, the ability to move at my own pace, monthly resume distribution services, the money back guarantee, as well as the comprehensive list of potential employers. I’m very excited to get started as soon as possible. Without a scholarship, I will have to wait as I’m the soul provider for my husband and I as he just got laid off from his job for the season. I appreciate your time and your careful consideration. Thank You so much, Sincerely, Marilyn
