My New Career
I found out in January of this year that I was pregnant with my first child. This was very exciting but also scary because I was not sure what to do about work. I would be able to work up until she was to be born but I had no idea what I was going to do after that. I stumbled upon the Future MT program online after exhausting many “work from home” options. I tried at-home crafts, home based businesses, and even money mailer programs, all of which failed miserably and were scams. After a lot of time and money were spent I decided that if I was going to work from home I wanted to learn a new skill. I wanted to do something that required knowledge and learning, not simply making money while being at home with my daughter. I decided to do a little research about work from home medical transcription jobs. I had heard of it and had a vague idea of what it entailed. After reading that a good MT is detail orientated, loves language, and must learn areas of medicine I was hooked. This was something I could definitely see myself doing and actually enjoying. First and foremost, one of the best things about medical transcribing is the option to work from home. This is initially why I first looked into the field. Medical transcribing gives you the freedom of working at home, flexible hours, and it is a growing industry. Although many technological advances are being made in the medical field, there will always be a need for medical transcriptionists. While computers can do many things, medical transcribing will always need people to correct human error. In today’s struggling economy, job security is essential. Working in the medical transcription field will give me the freedom of working from home, flexible hours, and job satisfaction. These things will save me money on gas, daycare, work attire and they will allow me to spend time with my daughter, and it is a career that I can be proud of. After I decided to pursue medical transcription as a new career, I spent a lot of time looking into many schools and companies that offered education in medical transcribing. I soon discovered that there a lot of schools and programs out there. It took some time, but I had to find the perfect program for me. I knew I did not necessarily need to physically go to classes so an online course was fine, and I wanted a course where I could learn from a textbook, but that was also interactive. I wanted a program that was aimed toward giving me a lot of experience with the actual transcribing. I am goal oriented and self disciplined so I did not need a 2 year program. I was also 6 months pregnant when I first started looking into the program so I needed something I could complete in a fairly short amount of time and that would give me the knowledge I needed to start transcribing right away. The Future MT program fit every single one of my needs. It really is the perfect program! It gives the students the knowledge in the medical field and most importantly, a good working knowledge of transcribing medical dictations. It is a no-nonsense program that is perfect for people who want to learn the profession and get to work right away. I am very lucky to have found this program. My first goal of course is to receive my certificate from the Future MT program and begin working soon after. After I have experience in the field, I would like to become a certified medical transcriptionist and eventually join the ADHI. While I have only had the program for a short time, I have really enjoyed it and know that I will be very happy with my new career as a medical transcriptionist.
