Opening Up a World of Opportunity
The reason I initially looked into medical transcription jobs was my living situation. I live in a small town in Montana where there are very few job opportunities, and those jobs offer very low pay and no benefits. I live here for several different reasons. The most important reason is my children. I feel this is a safe, secure area for them to grow up. My family is here, my husband’s family is here, my kids are surrounded by people we know and trust and their lives are full of love and security. However, to stay here, I have to find a way to support my family with a job that will offer more than minimum wage. I do not want to live in a low-income apartment complex for the rest of my life; in fact, the year that we have lived here has been a year too long. I want more for my family than what I am currently able to give them. Even though there are so many great things about living in rural Montana, there are many drawbacks as well. People think that the cost of living here is so much less than it is in other areas of the country and that is very inaccurate. In my current situation, I have no health insurance which is also of great concern to me. However, beyond the very necessary issues, are the simple ones that include me wanting to be able to give my children the best childhood I can. Living on welfare and never getting to experience the great things about being a kid is not what I want for them. To be able to give them more, I have to be able to have a different career. This is what motivates me. The flexibility of a career in medical transcription is a major advantage. Because of it, I would be able to continue to raise my children in an area that I feel is safe and happy, but I will also be able to generate an income that will allow us to live comfortably. I can also take my training and someday work outside of my home if I choose. This training can open up a world of opportunity for me. Future MT caught my eye right off because of the price and the length of the course. I have looked into MT courses that were over a year long and three times the price. I also read several reviews of this training program and all were very positive. I think the fact that the course is so much shorter in terms of the length of time is a major plus for me because working in this field is something I want to do immediately. I may not have pursued this as strongly if I had to commit to a year or more of training. I see myself working locally for hopefully the next 2-5 years if I can find a suitable job. The best part about training to become a medical transcriptionist for me is the opportunities that I will have anywhere in the US. I will not be held back by having to stay in this area longer than what I want to, yet if I wanted to stay here for the next 20 years, I could. That’s what this is all about for me.
