Pursuit of a MT Career

My name is Cynthia Rodriguez and I am 42 years old. I have been interested in obtaining a medical career in which I feel fulfilled and realized as a person. The medical field fascinates me, but due to my age and my family responsibilities I need the flexibility to do both, obtain a successful and rewarding career, as well as time to dedicate to my family.

I have an Associates Degree on Healthcare Administration. Since the healthcare field is of great interest to me, I want to be able to enter the field as soon as possible. I wanted to continue in pursue of a Bachelors Degree on Healthcare Administration but one aspect that has put my plan on hold is my personal health as well as my husband. We have been experiencing some mild, but worrisome health problems and we are uninsured. I worry that, if I am not able to find a job that will provide me with good healthcare insurance and coverage, these problems can become worse if they are not taking care of soon enough. At the moment I have a full time job in a small office. I have a wonderful boss, but unfortunately no insurance. I see many advantages in working in the MT industry. In my case, I live close to two hospitals that are constantly looking for medical transcriptionist so being able to stay working close to home is of great importance. I understand this job is demanding, but another advantage of being a medical transcriptionist is that I can stay at home and I am able to be there to raise the two minor children I have left and be there when they need me.

I am interested in a career in the medical field, as a transcriptionist, the opportunity that this career gives me of being close to the doctors and healthcare staff that work daily to make a difference in someone else’s life. The benefits of an education on Medical Transcription are: being able to work my own ours which can give me the opportunity to explore different areas within the healthcare system and further my education. The opportunity to be able to have control of my time will encourage me to continue to pursue my dreams of becoming a professional within the healthcare industry. My goals for the future are many. But I believe that I can achieve my plans when I start by setting up short term goals. My first goal is to be able to learn the skills well enough to find a job. In the future, I would love to be able to have enough work to stay at home.

Staying at home is a wonderful opportunity to teach my children the importance of staying in school and to lead them by example. My long term goals include the opportunity to increase my knowledge in several areas of health and wellness. Also, having the opportunity to have my own business will satisfy my need of feeling fulfilled knowing that I have finally accomplished my goals of taking care of my family, and becoming a real professional.
