Scholarship Essay Submission
I want to become a medical transcriptionist. I am very interested because I happened to lose a job and it is really frustrating. I realized after my hard day at work and had spent at least 12 hours of my day, still I am not satisfied with what I earned, pressured and work was not enough to please my immediate superior. The Boss keeps on looking for something more and would not appreciate what effort I have rendered. Boss is given and you cannot choose. You need to make all the adjustments. I want to gain full control of my time. I want to free myself from a tied, time bound office work. I want to gain freedom to do what I need anytime and be disciplined to do my job at a more creative and flexible way.
After 16 years of employment, still I am a slave of someones demand. Some of the advantages I am seeing in the MT industry, is that you will be able to have knowledge of medical terms, activities that maybe applied to your personal health. I am sure I will be able to apply it in practical situations and gain health consciousness not only for me but also for my family and friends. It is also an industry not yet so explored in Philippines and have more opportunities since there is few school in Philippines who offers it. As a mother of 5 kids, separated and had lost a job, it will be a big help for me to really gain a new skill that will help us survive. Two of my kids are in college and with the recession, it is so impossible at this point to win a job considering a vast of highly qualified applicant around in the industry where I am right now, electronics and manufacturing.
I am really interested in training with Future MT because of the scholarship offered. Desperately, I am looking for some help to alleviate our living status at this time. In a year’s time, I hope I can gain the necessary skills and knowledge needed to start an MT career, and be a certified MT. Moving forward, hopefully after 3 years, I also want to help others be a medical transcriptionist and start MT business to help my fellow citizen gain employment and maintain a career in MT industry.
In Philippines, if you are already at your thirties, chances to be employed is already very small. Most of the employment would prefer to have young applicants. The discrimination is very rampant that you really have to struggle to win a post. I am hoping to give more employment for those less fortunate and mothers like me who holds several roles in their lives that they cannot afford to be tied up in one area only for a certain period of time. Many mothers happen to dream the same as I do. Most Filipinos by culture preferred to organize their homes and take care of their children. If this will happen, more children will be guided properly by their own moms. They will gain more confidence to face the world challenges. Children can build a better society and build a better world.
