Seeking a Stay-At-Home Career
I never planned on being a stay at home mom. Before my first daughter was born I had planned on going back to work and putting her in day care, but when she was born my plans changed. After high school I had planned on going to nursing school. I went to a community college for 2 years and got accepted into nursing school and then I changed my mind and transferred to the University of Alabama where I received a degree in Criminal Justice. I got married and then got a job as a Case Manager for a Community Corrections program. I worked there for one year and then had my first child and decided to be a stay at home mom.
When my little girl was 3 months old I unexpectedly became pregnant. Nine months later my second daughter was born. I have been a stay at mom for three and a half years now and although it has been very rewarding, it has also been hard with only one income. It has gotten even harder now with the economy the way it is. My husband and I have discussed me going back to work but daycare is too expensive for two children and I can’t bare the thought of someone else taking care of my children. My 3 year old will turn 4 this August and will start preschool and I will still have my 2 year old at home. Criminal Justice doesn’t offer any jobs that I can stay at home and work. I have a friend that is a Medical Transcriptionist and she loves her job and being able to stay at home and be available for her children. I want to be able to be at home when my children get out of school and be able to pick them up. I don’t want them to have to go to any kind of after school program.
It is important for parents to be available for their children. I would like to be here for them in the summer time and spend time with them. I would like have the flexibility of working from home, spending time with my family, and making my own hours. I have always been interested in the Medical field and this would be a great way to do it without having to leave home. I am interested in training with Future MT because it allows me to be able to train from home instead of having to go sit in a classroom that would be taking time away from my family. I also think it is great that Future MT offers so many ways to be able to get partial or full scholarships. With one income it would be almost impossible for me to be able to pay for tuition. I would like to see myself in the near future having another income for my family. I want the future to hold great things for my family. I want to build a college fund for my children, build savings for my family, and also fund our own retirement so that we don’t have to worry about relying on a company to do it for us. I think being a Medical Transcriptionist is an excellent way to do this and spend all the time I can with my family.
