The Medical Transcriptionist Field On-Line
Becoming a medical transcriptionist is a field which is increasing in demand and popularity. Since retiring in late June of 2007, I have done a considerable amount of research for the job that best suits my circumstances, and this particular online typing job interests me because of direct involvement with the medical profession and the constant availability of work. The advantages of working in the MT industry are numerous: 1) It is a field of work which continues to grow and will always be recession proof—doctors are always going to be in demand. 2) It is a job in which the medical transcriptionist can learn medical terminology pertaining to health. 3) Having the opportunity to be employed as a medical transcriptionist from home has the advantages of being able to avoid long commutes to and from the work location and to remain with the family. As a retiree it is important for me to remain close to the family and avoid unnecessary travel. 4) The ability to be able to have a flexible schedule, which working at home in the MT industry provides, is a very important advantage. Several reasons for being interested in training for the MT industry are as follows: 1) Of all the work at home opportunities available, this provides an individual with an actual learning experience. The MT industry is the best job opportunity on the market because of the need for understanding medical terminology and dictation. This is not a typical clerical job. It is one that requires a considerable amount of studying. 2) The ability to interact with members of the medical profession. It would be exciting to meet doctors in the various medical fields. 3) Because of the need for training, I feel at ease in knowing that this job opportunity is no gimmick. The goals to achieve in the MT industry are to 1) gain a gradual knowledge of the terminology used in the various fields of medicine. With the exception of several years as a dispatcher for The Department of Water Management in Chicago, the other two full-time jobs in which I was employed did not entail much learning. It is my intention to pursue whatever degree/and /or degrees that are available with this program. 2) To be able to eventually branch out into the various fields of the MT industry once an understanding of the basic concepts has been achieved working with one medical group. The expectation is that it will take a period of time to master the essentials of this industry once certification is completed. The plan for the beginning is to seek employment first through MT Inc. Initially, part-time work will be the first step after certification. As a gradual mastery of the main concepts is gained, the expectation within a few months to a year is to branch out into all the various medical fields to gain further employment. 3) After a period of two years, owning my own MT business would be a definite possibility. At this juncture there will be enough clients to be able to distribute among future candidates.
