There’s Got To Be A Better Way

My name is Cindy and I have worked in the medical field for over 20 years. Having two uncles that were surgeons, and two older sisters who are RN’s the love of hospitals and medicine came to me at a very early age. One of my fondest memories is of my sister taking me to the hospital where she worked and allowed me to visit the lab. I loved seeing all the little white mice! From then on, I decided that I wanted to be a nurse when I “grew up”. It seems that life never turns out the way you plan it and my dreams of being a nurse were side tracked. I met a man, fell in love and got married. Two years later, I became a mom for the first time! My husband and I both worked, and even though my son now was my number one priority, in the back of my mind, I still wanted a career in medicine.

Not having the time for a baby, a job and school, I worked nights as a nursing assistant in a local nursing home. The work was hard and sometimes unpleasant, but I did take great pride in the fact that I was helping to comfort people who were at the last stages of life. As time passed, I had three more children & really no time now for school. But I did stay in the medical field, working for a hospice as a home health aide. Another wonderful learning experience! While working at that job, I was offered a position at a local hospital as a nursing assistant where I learned a whole new set of skills. From there, I went on to become a Unit Secretary at that hospital, and also another hospital in my area. Being a Unit Secretary was a challenging position, due to the fact, you had to be able to read what various doctors wrote on patients charts and transcribe those orders into the hospital computer. It was during that time that a friend of mine suggested Medical Transcription to me. It sounded like something that I would enjoy, I like to type, am comfortable using a computer, detail oriented and really tired of working hard for someone else! The fact that you can be a Medical Transcriptionist from home, appealed to me as well!

I think it would be wonderful to wake up, pour yourself a cup of coffee, sit down at your own computer and start to work without worrying about driving in the snow, punching a time clock or having a boss hanging over your shoulder ! I would very much like to win a scholarship for this course because I am now a single mom and finances are tight. I can also be home for my children. And the fact that I would be able to slow down a bit, would be a great stress eliminator in my life! I would love to see where the path of being an MT can take me as there are several options! That is why I have chosen this specific course. From what I’ve read, the school encourages and helps you to be your best! I respectfully request that you consider my request for a scholarship for your Medical Transcription course. It would truly be a blessing for me.
